Fuel economy? Maybe some performance, not that you would really notice the difference...... I think that would more apply to vehicles with knock sensors though...

This is perhaps the most frustrating thing about "tuning" someone elses design whos design notes you don't have access to. Then try to use aftermarket parts which land all over the map.

All you can do is try everything under the sun while trying to be scientific abut it....which costs a fortune by the time you try everything and document the results.

Rock Auto lists two NTK O2 sensors for the 1997 1500 5.2L (pre-cat)
#23506 Pre-Cat (Upstream); Pre-Cat (Upstream)Calyst Sensor (w/12" Length); Pre-Cat (Upstream)Calyst Sensor (w/12" Length)

#23151 Pre-Cat (Upstream); Pre-Cat (Upstream)Calyst Sensor (w/18" Length); Pre-Cat (Upstream)alyst Sensor (w/18" Length)

There is no illustration (which I'm certain I can find in a moment with a Google search), but IIRC, for a 1997 is should be the latter, correct?

i went with the 23151. put it in last night and all seems well after the plenum and tune-up. i did notice just now when i was out how much the AC kills power though.

im still not sold on the uphill performance either. is it hella better then before the plenum fix? yes. does my 5500lb suburban have better feeling performance from a smaller engine, yes.

guess i need to save my pennies for a hemifever tuner

The length is one thing, just confirm the shape of the connector. Blackbeast? is it round or square?

im guessing my truck was neglected due to everything that i've had to do. is there anything else cheap that would need to be done (fuel filter, anything to do with fuel in general, seafoam, additives to clean out crap, etc.?

The 3:55 gears is why it's a dog, even the owners manual says to turn OD off when going up a hill. My 98 was a pos with them, the 2000 has 4:10's and on the same roads/hills it has tons of power going up those same hills. No down shifting or turning off OD. Unless of course I get stuck behind Grandma, LOL.
