Question Locking front brakes

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. I am having a problem with the front brakes locking up when applying the brake at slow speeds. The pedal is fairly sensitive at all times, can someone give me an idea of what the problem may be? The brake calipers also seem to be in working condition.

Have a look at the brake pads, if they are severely worn, they will exhibit that kind of behavior.

Had the same problem. Long story short after replacing everything I found out it was a bad caliper. May have been both but I replaced em since It's always wise to replace in pairs.

Question Locking front brakes

Thank you very much for your feedback. I recently replaced the front rotors and pads thinking that would fix the problem. I am seeing excessive brake dust collecting on both front rims. Is there a way to test the calipers to determine which one may be bad? Is it possible the rear brakes are not operating correctly so the front brakes are over compensating? Thanks again for your help?

The calipers might be fine. Check and make sure the slide pins are not froze up in them. And you rear brakes should be adjusted at every oil change, as the self adjusters don't work all that great.

Question

Thanks for the info, I will check it out. If it is the calipers can you recommend a place to get parts?

Any brand will be fine really, what parts stores do you have around?

I called around when I replaced mine and most of the places had the same brand. I found one store that offered a lifetime warranty on them, so I went with those. I can't remember if it was Advance or Fishers, but I think it was Advance. There also was a price difference between many of the stores, so I'd go with the best warranty and cheapest price.

I've noticed that more often when it's wet for the first few brake pedal pumps the rear shoes will lock real easy. My 1991 S10 Blazer did the same thing.
