Default AC compressor questions????

Ok so I went to the junk yard today and pulled a compressor. I googled the model number on the compressor and it said ti would fit my vehicle. Well after taking my compressor off tonight and bolting the junk yard one in it had a different connector. Ok so Now I will look for the rite connector. I think I may just buy a new one from the parts store. My question though is. The old compressor I had in my truck spun freely on the pulley and didnt make any sound. The junk yard one spun freely but made kind of a rubbing/squeaking sound. I'm assuming this means a bearing or something is bad. If i do get a compressor from the junk yard what tests can I do to detrmine if there is a problem with it or not to make sure it will work???? thanks guys.

The pulley will turn freely until the clutch engages. Spin the center section of the pulley. (not the part the belt rides on...) should be some resistance...
