That would be a question for someone a little more knowlegable on these trannies than myself. Personally, I would get a 46RE, what the truck had originally, and before installing it, beef it up (or custom order it beefed up). It'll be better that way, and you'll avoid the pretty common failures you run into with these transmissions.

Here is a very good transmission company, for example.

Here is a link to the picture looking at the front of tranny, let me know if any problems. I can't seem to load any more in album.

No, you should find another 46RE, of approximately the same year as yours. (nothing older than 96 though, earlier versions won't work.)

98 or 99 only. Unless you want to change all the sensors inside. You'll also want one from the same drive as yours. 2wd or 4wd that is.

Are you all sure a 46re will fit my setup? obvisously things were changed , to make the 727 fit. with adding the overdrive. did you see the link to what the bell housing is? question I have is this Didn't the older 727 tranny's were tougher trans? so why not keep the setup? also now if i went with orig tranny, 46re, wouldn't I have to change things back(possible driveshaft and or tailshaft assembly change?

sorry for all questions, just want to make sure she is right, to put back together.

thanks guys

If you have a four speed automatic, it is a 46RE.

Agreed, the OD unit from a 46re or an A518 for that matter, will not even bolt to a 727. Of course the 727 will bolt up to a Magnum engine and the pan gasket is the same, that's about it. It would never work without some kind of major electrical modifications at the very least. You have a 46re simple as that.
