So 4 weeks after replacing my timing cover gasket on my 5.9 and re-using my water pump it seems now my water pump is leaking..... fun so i bought a new water pump and put it on. Everything is together now, but for love of god the metal tube that goes into the pump on the drivers side is leaking bad..

The O ring on it is torn, so i bought a o ring kit at advance auto parts for $8 and only 2 of them fit... one is a thick O ring and when i try to push the metal tube in the hole it wont budge.. the o ring is too thick, i pushed so hard it went in eventually but tore the o ring in 2 half complete peices.... lol

So i tried the thinner one and it went in but it leaks like crazy... What is the right size o ring for this ?? Because this part has been taking more time then taking the old pump off and replacing it... Its now almost 12am... so i give up gonna try it tomarow, but im really really low on cash i cant spend much more on this... I didnt even want to replace this water pump.. cause the $100 i spent today was for bills...

So can someone please tell me the right size o ring, or what part number it is.. if there is one..

I have one u can have if u want . They sell the part and o ring as a kit in the help section at parts stores. Napa has it also. Around $12. I put coolant rtv on mine also before I stuck it in.

Autozone has the tube and o-ring also.

It's a new pump and it's leaking? Take it back and have them replace it.

Mine slid right in pretty easily. No leaks or anything.

I just replaced the whole tube. You can find o-rings in the right diameter, but, getting the 'correct' one is a bit more fun. Getting the whole tube is a lot easier. Aside from that aspect, the end of the tube likes to rust, and separate...... so, the o-ring slips out anyway.

Use a generous bead of that gray coolant RTV as suggested. Let it set up for at least 3 hours, overnight even better, before you run it.

There is also a HELP! Brand replacement tube you can get for around $10. I had to purchase one when I replaced the water pump due to rust in the tube.

If you put the gray RTV all over the tube, it'll help the rusting problem. A steel tube and aluminum water pump are dissimilar metals, their contact points are breeding grounds for corrosion and electrolysis. Add water to that mix and it goes that much faster.

not sure where you got your new water pump but i am in the process of replacing mine right now and the new pump came with a new o ring. Like most i had to go down and get a new tube also so now i have a spare.
