I have been wanting 4.10 gears, currently have 3.55. I have a 4.10 front diff I can swap in my truck, but would still need to rear gear the rear diff. I know the whole thing about mismatched ratios, but would I be safe as long as I did not put the front drive shaft back in? This is just until I get the funds to rear gear in the back.

 

So long as you don't engage four wheel drive, it will be fine.

why do the front first ? if anything do the rear first , because u cant engage in 4wd anyways at least in the rear you can just drive with it. just dont engage .

 

Probably because the whole axle, with the right gears, is cheaper than gears, and installation.

 

Because he obviously found one for the front first.
