Default 94 ram tranny question

hey yall i have a 94 ram 5.2 with 135000 on it.i got to town yesterday and stopped at a light when it turned green got on it and it just revvd kept trying and shifting gears and it took off as soon as i made it across road it did it agin.i suspect the tc is bad and i now hear noise in nuetral.on the way it did take a long time to come out of first.

now today i went to see what it would do it would drive for 10 blocks then quit then 4 blocks then 1 if i put it in park cut it off and restart it,it will always kick in and drive but sumtimes for only seconds.fluid is bright red smells like burnt

im wondering if im right if tc is to blame and if so would there be another problem that would have caused this that would prevent me from just changing the tc?

If the torque converter did indeed fail, rebuild the whole trans. If you just put a converter on it, all the crap that grenaded out of the original, is now circulating thru the trans, and it is only a matter of time before the trans goes. If you go to the trouble of swapping the t/c, all you are going to do is give that crap more opportunity to screw up other parts in the trans, and turn your new converter into scrap, as you won't be able to re-use it after the trans fails. They are notoriously difficult to clean out, and if you leave it in there, it WILL hold on to enough debris to destroy your nicely rebuilt trans.

Rebuild the whole thing, replace the t/c, flush the cooler lines REALLY well, in both directions. (backwards FIRST.)

Sounds like the filter is clogged up. No matter what its going to need a rebuild.
