Hi, I just enherited My dads old 98 Ram 1500 laramie slt. And i have Big plans for it. If I lifted it 3' inches and did a 3' inch body lift, would i need an extended front driveshaft?

Welcome to DF
I hate to be a Killjoy, but

Your plans should first include, checking the plenum
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...um-thread.html

Reading all through the FAQ section and also download the free 2001 service manual.

And if you plan on lifting it, you will undoubtedly want over size tires. In that case you'll want to change the diff gears, otherwise the tranny will get toasted in short order.

There are other things, but's that's a start, and things you NEED to think about before spending money on the wrong things first.

And put all the info about the truck in your sig. Just makes life easier for everyone.

Welcome to DF!

I'm glad you stated inches in your description, because the single tick mark, ', usually means feet. That'd be one monster lift. Inches are usually a double tick, ".

He'll definitely want gears with a 6 foot lift.

Back again, Heres some more info on the truck and plans. I was going to buy a Wrangler and do things to it, but my dad got a new truck and grades permitted me to it!

What it has now. 1998 Laramie slt 2 tone (purple top silver bottom)
Fresh rhino lining under coat.
130,XXX Miles
sitting at totally stock.

Since i've worked my *** of all summer saving for a wrangler this thing will be nice when im done with it.

Needs little things since my dad just beat on it and never fixed the things.
New rear view mirror
Replace the cracked windshield
u-joints
oil change
A/c Recharge.
two dents pulled (plunger didn't work) any ideas

Plans.

3'' Rough country suspension lift
3'' Body lift
Bushwhacker fender flares
Kmc Rockstar rims (debating on 18'' or 19'') And debating on tires (throw me ideas)

Then little stuff to it. I'd like to make it a daily driver. but make sure it can handle some stuff I throw at it. When all the big stuffs handled. I'd like to get tints. Mabye two 6'' subs under the rear bench seat. tonneau cover.

Go open a savings account and put about $1200 in it (and leave it there lol) for when the transmission needs to be rebuilt. It's going to happen sooner or later. Especially if you put bigger wheels/tires on it and don't change the gearing.

As zman stated in the very first reply to your post, budget about $200-$250 for fixing the plenum (if you plan to do the labor yourself). If you don't plan to do the labor yourself, budget about $700-$750 for parts and labor. That oil leaking guy will eventually ruin oxygen sensors (killing your power and gas mileage) and clog your catalytic converter (killing your power and gas mileage).

Also, don't forget to replace that pre-cat oxygen sensor after the plenum job. If its never been replaced in 130+k miles, it needs to be done. The factory ones sometimes only last 60k-75k before getting sloppy (lowering power and mileage but not popping an error code because they technically are still working), and the aftermarket ones usually last about 100k. Buy only Denso or NGK/NTK units, avoid Bosch and Standard. Best place to get them is Rock Auto, by far the cheapest I've found for O2 sensors.
