Default Can't figure out how to change cv joint/u-joint

I decided to replace my u joints on my front driveshaft (even though it wasn't necessary). I took off the three u-joints and now I can't get the one closest to the rear of the truck back on. It's different and there is no way I can figure this out, I tried for two hours then gave up. I took it to a couple shops and they all qouted 120+. What type of shop should i take it to? I tried transmission and general repair shops. Thanks
It's an 01 dodge ram with the 5.9, quad cab, and 4wd

Forget it, if you want it done right, bring it to a driveshaft shop. There is more to it than just replacing the ujoints.

Alright so I figured out its a cv joint and I have to buy a kit to replace it, thats what the driveshaft shop said. I'd like to buy the kit myself since the guy said it can cost and upwards of $100 for the kit and $50 to install it. Does anyone know where to buy these "kits", I'll have them install it but I'd like to save on the kit. Thanks for reading, I really regret tearing this apart now, I definitely need to listen to the if it ain't broke, don't fix it lol.

Sorry to say, but that guy is a DB. It's called a Cardan joint, and you can get a complete kit (or parts) at Quad4x4.com. with directions. I did it on my 98, 1500. Turns out, after spending that money to do it myself on the 98, It was less than a hundred to have it done at a local shop, including spicer ujoints on my 2000 2500.

Well he was the phone attendent, probably doesn't know much, or maybe I didn't describe it right. I'll just take it by there tomorrow and see what they will qoute. If its less than $100 I'll let them do it, if not I'll have to order a kit and do it myself. Thanks for the info though, how hard was it for you to do yourself?

It's a PITA and not as easy as doing a joint on the rear shaft for example(obviously) . It's the time it takes to make sure it's right. Yea, I had no problem with it, but for the money, I said the hell with it on the next one. I was actually shocked at how inexpensive it was. And that was at a shop the has been around for a long time. So they know what there doing.

Alright so I tried to go to two different driveshaft shops, both were out of business. Luckily they weren't too far from where I needed to go anyways. My next step is to drive 20-30 mins to the nearest driveshaft shop, or buy that kit online. The single driveshaft flange sells for $100 (what I need posted lower), is that ridiculous or is that just me? The kit sells for $160 which is also ridiculous. I'm missing 2 needle bearings and I was wondering if there is a rebuild for just the internal part of that flange so I don't have to replace the whole thing. I guess I'll just have to drive to miami tomorrow but I'm not sure how reliable or how good of a shop it'll be (its really ghetto down there). So what would you do?

And if you look, the parts are available. You don't need the whole flange.
