Default how to diagnose a/c compressor clutch

I'm having no luck trying to search this topic so my apology if it has been addressed before. I have a 1999 Ram 1500 5.2. The a/c started blowing fuses the other day and I suspect that it is clutch related. So how do I confirm this? I have searched the internet all weekend trying to find some schematics- man do I long for the good old days.

What I found so far is:
Unable to figure out where the hot goes once it leaves the PDC.
With only two wires connected to the compressor, one shows a ground and nothing on the other with a ohm meter- no ground, no hot.
When I connect VOM to the leads at the compressor, I get a 0.0 reading indicating a compete circuit. Should this not show some resistance through the load?

I have not been able to find any stats anywhere on what should be what then all of sudden I have realized, DUH, come here and ask!!!

So, I'm asking.

Thanks ahead to all.
Richard

I believe you are correct about the clutch. This may help, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-manuals.html

Sounds like the coil for the compressor clutch is shorted. Yes, there should be some resistance there. Not sure on exact value though....

You will only get voltage on the feed line to the compressor with the engine running, and a/c enabled. (and the fan turned on. I think)

It's 5 ohms and mine turned out to be the coil like heyyou said. I had the same symptoms as you, and not to threadjack but I'm 99.99% sure that's the problem, my heat doesn't work because my a/c clutch still runs when I turn that little *** all the way to the red and the a/c clutch stays engaged, any quick fixes for this? My heater core doesn't seem to come on either. But the heat does work a little.

Do a google search on "heater treater". I suspect that may be at least part of your problem. Your heat should be completely independent of your a/c compressor.

Works for me, just links to the Service Manual thread in the FAQ/DIY section of the 2nd gen forums though.

Its probably the factory service manual and it is in the FAQ section. You can't open it if you're on a phone or tablet, you have to use a computer.

But to the op, I would definitely check the coil and replace it because I went three weeks with no a/c in south florida (95+ everyday all day and night) and I finally gave up and took it to a mechanic to do it and I found out it was only a coil. He replaced that and the whole clutch (it was all seized up) for $100, really good guy. I wish I would have figured out much earlier about the coil, ESP since my gf wasn't happy with my cheap self....
