Default CAI vs Headers

So I've looked around and I need yalls help.

I've been saving up a little money to mess around with ole Blue on. 2001 360 Magnum.

Should I get a cold air intake or some headers from summit, the 200 dollars and some change ones. I've heard good stuff about em.

What Ive learned about CAI is that there effectiveness is somewhat disputed. At least to HOW effective they are. And I've read that since our Rams dump everything into the huge kegger and then run it to the cylinders. So the air has plenty of time to get hot. What the CAI does do is allow it to breathe better.

Which leads me to the headers, they definitely breathe better then stock manifold, and apparently everybody gets a little pep from em. My question, should I save up a little more money and get another y pipe with the headers? Or will the headers themselves be a good upgrade.

I do have dual flowmaster 40 series. And the stock cat. Plenum is good too.

Which one guys? Or should it be something else I'm completely missing. (kinda partial to the headers cuz they increase sound) I like the vroom vroom

Personally after having tried both of the above would say neither. Best bang for my buck so far has been a high flow cat plus properly sized cat back. (note that I don't have a factory wye pipe on my model but that would be part of the required cat upgrade too imo if you do have that style exhaust in order to get the whole hi flo cat bennies) Although I hear, without actually being able to try for myself due to OBD1, the SCT may even be as good or better a first upgrade than the cat.

Between the two things you mentioned I'd go with the headers before the typical CAI. Some of the ram airs I've seen are intriguing to me though I can't recommend since I have yet to try one. vIMO save your dough on the CAI it is about the lowest bang for buck item you can buy in my experience.

But if I get the SCT I'll have to start putting the high octane gas, what is it? 93? And run that tune.

Also, how much would a magnaflow cat and a y-pipe run me? Where can I get it?

Summit, Jegs, or even direct from magnaflow..... check around, see who has the best pricing.

If you don't have emissions testing in your area, check out the Jeg's Off-Road Y-pipe. Eliminates the cat altogether, along with the restrictive stock y-pipe. (which is what needs to happen before you will see any benefit from headers.....)

There are many tunes for the SCT including tunes for regular grade gas. Even those would likely be a nice improvement in power and fuel economy due to the likelihood you are now running the so called "death flash".

I got my universal Magnaflow cat off ebay for less than $100. Y pipes can be had from Jegs etc. but aren't really necessary if you can make a 2 in/1 out cat work with your setup, ie if you already have the stock 2 in/ one out cat in there.

87 tune is awesome if you dont want to run higher. the 87 tune beats the shoes off the 93 tune i had on my superchips. hemifever compleatly removes torque managment and is better for the transmission. best fav mod to do . cant beat it for 265 .

The only y pipe I saw on Summits was the jegs, and I don't know about emissions testing. Although I get my truck inspected by a guy that practically just slaps the sticker on if you know him personally.

I knows there's a price difference between direct fits and universals. But they both work the same correct?
