Default transmission finally went

My tranni finally went at a 170,000 +/-. I started dropping it last night. I forgot what a pain dropping a tranni was.

Well, you just got a reminder. Gonna replace it? Rebuild it? What?

You sure it's not something simple? What is it doing?

Theres a gang of resources for rebuilding it. Unless you just don't have the time. I am considering doing a writeup on it since I've been screwing with mine for the past month and a half on my time off work.

The tranni was slipping really bad...by the time I got home I lost my 2 higher gears. So I doubt it's something simple

I've read through your thread...lots of good info. I don't have the time to rebuild my tranni my self. I need the truck going ASAP I am self-employed flooring contractor and own a apartment building. I'm sure I have the knowledge to do it I've rebuilt Transfer cases before and tinkered on transmissions....but time is money.

About a week ago the tranni wouldn't go into 3rd gear it would just rev up to 3-4 grand until I stopped then it was a 50/50 if it would act fine after that. I was heading to a job site and lost all gears but 1st then I would get all of my gears back. So I turned around and limped home. Then I had to go down the street to help a friend with a fallen tree a few days after so I got in the truck and it shifted fine until the truck warmed up. By the time I got home all gears including rev was gone. When i got in the truck to move it to the other side of the house to pull the tranni it had a hard time moving.
When I bought the truck 2 years ago I knew it had tranni problems. It's been wining ever since but I just figured I'd run it until it failed. When I changed the fluid and filter after I bought it there where no magnets in the pan. It was a after market pan so the shop didn't install them.
