2001 ram 1500 4x4
Hello I am new here I have just recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. Getting a new tranny put in and a new windshield. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what could be causing so much play in the wheel just to keep it going straight is this normal. Its just a work truck not a Daily Driver but want that fixed.

Welcome to DF.
First, I'd check out this thread:

Its in the FAQ/DIY/How To section at the top of the main page where you posted this. There are a lot of other common issues in there as well that may be worth taking a look at.

Get a friend.
Start the truck, and have said friend jiggle the steering wheel back and forth about 1/8th of a turn or so while you look at each steering component for play. Take a good look at the track bar for play at each end also.
Make sure you find a friend that doesn't have any desire to run you over and if you crawl under there to check, don't go sticking your hands up into the drive belt.
Good luck!
