Default weird noise help!!!!!!

hi

i have a 2002 ram 1500 with the 5.9l in it..
its wierd just replaced my belt and tension pulley..

now when i turn on the heat it makes a wierd noise from the front of the engine.. maybe the a/c unit???

then when i turn it off it stops right away.. its not the heater core..

you know when u turn on the heat, and the a/c spins where the belt is. it wines, then when i turn it off it stops..

help.. do i need to replace that unit??

I would start poking around under the hood, and see where the noise is really coming from. On some settings, the a/c compressor will indeed run, but, not all. If you switch witch settings, does the noise come and go?

Might wanna have a look at the belt tensioner as well. If it doesn't move freely, the additional load from either the alt running the fan, or the compressor engaging may be causing the belt to slip, which does make some odd noises.

What kind of belt? Mine squealed with the Gates belt. I put a Dayco belt on it and it's nice and quiet. Take the belt off and spin things by hand and see if they spin nice and quiet. Also make sure the belt is routed correctly.

The only times the A/C compressor will be on is with A/C on or Heater set to Defrost. Aside from those two, you should get no clutch movement or noise from that area (unless there is a short causing it to kick on randomly).

Your A/C clutch bearings are going bad. You can either replace the clutch, or compressor yourself, or if you don't know how to do that then an A/C shop would be the smartest route.

I figure its better to raise a dead thread than post a new one.

I am getting a similar noise from my engine compartment, its not really loud but it is high in pitch and intermittent. Happens if I'm driving or idling in D, or parking with the motor running. It was a little cold this morning, so that may be a factor. (full heat on second fan speed with setting on dash/floor)

It was a little louder in the cab than out of it. But it sounded like it way be coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. (alternator/belt tensioner area)

Belt is relatively new, I will check all the pulleys today to see if it could be one of those. Anything else I should be looking at?

Default noise from my front end when making turns

I have a 2002 ram 1500 slt 2 wheel drive, I just put new Michelin 6 ply tires on it, it called for 4 ply but tire guy said I could use 6 ply. It only makes noise when I'm turning. Anybody have an idea what might be the problem.
