Just this past week I had to replace the battery on my wife's vehicle. I was surprised at how expensive batteries have become. The best battery I could get for the money (and the cheapest) was $80 at WalMart. The auto parts were $90 and up. When I replaced the battery on my truck in 07 it ran me $50ish. (Out of curiosity I looked and a new battery for my truck now would be $90 at WalMart) So what gives? Why the big jump? Is it that we are being screwed in California (not surprising at all) or is that the way it's running throughout the U.S.? Seems a lot to pay for an old fashioned acid battery. So what all are you guys paying for batteries in other states?
$80+core is about the cheapest i have seen a new automotive battery. if you don't mind buying used junk yards sometimes sell batteries cheap or places that rebuild them also sell the cheap. the battery that is currently in my 81 cost me $20 at the junkyard and it is fairly strong. my friend bought a battery for his honda civic at the same junk yard for $20 and it seemed like it was almost brand new as far as being able to crank the engine over.
I paid $120 for a new battery for my RV this summer on a trip. They have really shot up, and I think they are screwing everyone - not just in California!
