Default lifter tap at start up

When my truck sits over night it has a lifter tap at start up until the oil pressure picks up... 1-2 seconds. I'm running 10w-30 now, if i switched to 10w-40 on my next change would that cure it?

two schools of thought:

thinner oil loads the lifter quicker..

thicker oil drains out of the lifter slower..

choose your poison..

10w-30 and 10w-40 acts the same cold, hence the first number they share

I'd try 5w-30 personally. If that doesn't work, next oil change go the opposite direction, and get thicker, 15w-xx.

5POINT9, tell us more about the truck. Mileage on the engine, prior oil change intervals, oil pressures at various points (when cold, hot, driving, etc), and the ambient temperatures in the mornings when this happens (unless it does it all of the time no matter what temps are outside).

Not to start a 9 page debate, but what oil filter do you use?

I knew that would come up, almost said it myself.
Not a roller cam engine, but my 87 was bad about lifter clatter after sitting for a night up to a week. Got away from fram filters and it's 95% better.

What color is the truck? Two or four wheel drive?
