interesting. autozone keeps pushing the lucas fuel treatment on me when I check out. well recently I had a small purchase and wanted to spend the 20 dollars to get the point on my rewards card and got three lucas fuel treatments to go over the 20 dollar mark. I was surprised I noticed a difference. in cold start, and driving "closed loop?" before things warmed up. it ran very smooth, it would usually serge and bog a bit. also (my speedo is off a bit due to a gear change) my trip odometer reads 23 more miles per tank with it. from 360 miles per tank to low 380's.

I run the LOS non-synthetic with Mobil 1. The PO used mobil 1 (documented) so I followed suit.

WHen i did my roller rockers at 47K miles, i cracked the valvecovers and there was ABSOLUTELY ZERO "burnt toast" look. Everything was squeaky clean. Looking at my heads and valvesprings, they looked like brand new heads that someone poured oil on.

I have used it ever since.

HOWEVER, I change my oil every 3K miles or 3 months (i am OCD with oil changes). So that constant renewal of fresh oil probably helps out a bit.

I think one oil change per year I will not add the lucas. Like the winter months. I don't want things too thick in the winter.

I keep the large bottle of that in my cupholder!!! Every fillup I add about 3 ounces. Or, i will add 3 ounces, fillup and if i fillup only half a tank, I will let that initial 3 ounces "ride out."

Every once in a while, i will squirt a bit into the wife's yukon.

It is not really to improve performance, but more to protect the upper cylinder (hence why it is called upper cylinder lube). But it can help mitigate getting bad gas as well.

I have a similar experience going on with Lucas in my truck. I put five quarts of 15w40 Rotella in my truck with a half quart of Lucas. The truck is horrifyingly loud at start-up. Sounds like a three-piece brass band is playing under the hood. However, at hot idle in gear it's got slightly better oil pressure. I added the lucas due to my engine burning some oil.

Hmm. Engines are designed to run on MOTOR OIL. Not additives.
Most additives are loaded with zinc and that is what the "magic" is in additives.

do not use Lucas if there is no need for that,if you use it on every oil change the engine can use to it and than if you stop using it, the engine will start burn oil. use it only if the engine already started to burn oil, that will prevent a little, will make it smoother.
if you want to make the sound on the engine a little more quiet, just use thicker regular oil.
have tried almost all oils, every brand. best for the 4.7l Magnum engine is the Penzoil 5w-30, does not burns at all, i put 6 quarts, i take out 6quarts.
