Default Check eng light is back!!

Ok, my 1998 3.9 v6 in my ram vans cle is on again. It keeps coming up with random misfires on cyl 2, 3, 4, & 5. I've replaced the wires, plugs, cap, rotor, ignition coil, pick up coil and did the tsb about rerouting the coil wire. No matter what i do the same codes keep coming back. This "shade tree" style of repair attempts is getting expensive! Any ideas on what else to look for?

Pull the CKP (cam sensor) from inside the distributor and inspect it for cracks or breakage. If it looks good, inspect the pigtail for any breaks in the insulation as well as the plug. Clean the plug on both it and the harness. Put some di-electric grease on the connectors and reinstall.

If the CKP is damaged, replace it and use di-electric grease on the connectors. Double check that the distributor cap is installed square and true.

Yes it does. It's in the distributor. Commonly called "pick up coil". What's even more interesting is, it has zero to do with when the spark plugs fire, or even IF the spark plugs fire. That is the Crank Position sensor. Cam sensor controls injector timing.

And, the V6 has the same problem with the plenum as the V8.

these motors are picky on things like plugs and ignition coils, what flavor did you use? and what is the " pick up coil " you speak of? also fuel pressure test is warranted. also battery voltage and alternator output should be checked. I know the CEL is on but does it run like it has these ignition problems? is it really missing? edit, OP said he replaced the pick up coil and hey you explained what and where the "pick up coil is" and I want to know what he replaced and called the pick up coil.

When I reinstalled my engine and fired it up the PCM reported a multiple misfire code. Guess what course of action I followed to correct it Go ahead -- guess. You know you want to
