Default Yoke Question - Dana 70

I was just about done with a pinion seal replacement on my 1998 2500 (Dana 70) and I noticed the flange on the yoke where the old seal sat was a little beat up. Playing with it a little I realized I could slide this flange off the yoke. What is this flange? Was it part of the yoke and has just rusted free? Was it part of the old seal, is it something that can be replaced, or does the entire yoke need to be replaced? This flange did not come with the new seal.

Here is a link to pictures of the yoke and the flange I am talking about...

Thanks,

Garrett

I got an error when I clicked on the link you provided. Photobucket.com works well. You can create a free account, upload the photo, then click on the "image link" below or beside the photo. Then paste taht link into text.

Without your pic, my guess is that you are referring to the Slinger. Yes you need it, yes you can replace it, see part number below.
No it's not a part that would come with the seal or is it part of the seal.

Slinger - End Yoke #10 Spicer/Dana part number 34592

You can find all your Dana info books/ part numbers at this site.
http://www.spicerparts.com/axle/literature.asp

Part number 10 in the diag, but the part number is just for the slinger.

Just stopped at my local dealer and found out there shouldn't be anything on the outside of the seal. However there shoild be a slingee on the inside. Last person must have put it together wrong. What a mess. Can anyone else verify this?

Thanks,
Garrett

merc225hp already verified it for you. What more do you want?

Pictures weren't up when he posted that. Talked with a mechanic and found out it was a dust guard and in the correct place. Just needed to be hammered out straight.

Thanks for the responses,
Garrett

I would replace before I hammered it out......can't be that expensive.

It comes with the yoke, so I got it hammered out pretty good and will see how it goes. If it doesn't work or wrecks the new seal I will throw a new yoke on it.

Thanks much for the feedback.

You can buy that part separate from the yoke I even gave you the part number for it! and the pics were up 20 min after I made my first post on this, check the time stamp, your next post was 11hrs later.
