Default rev limiter at 4,000 rpm????

ive got an 01 ram 1500 4x4 and im hitting my rev limiter around 4,000 rpms. any ideas on what could be causing this? ive recently installed another tranny and a used ECU about 6 months, and when im wide open throttle it will bounce off the rev limiter around 3,900-4,000 rpms not letting it shift into the next gear but only under wot. I was told to have my ecu reflashed but that cost around $100, so before i start throwing money at it i thought id get some input from you guy.

If your going to get the computer flashed just get a tuner. It will cost you a little bit more but will be much better than the death flash the dealership will use.

Where did you get the computer?

There is no rev limiter till like 5 grand or something.
You have something else wrong with your truck.
However, like novarider, I am wondering if the PO flash the PCM and lowered the limiter on it. Which would make sense, since you say your are bouncing off it.

However, have you checked your cat?

Just a thought, I had a 01 Sport 4x4. Mine did the same and I put an after market chip in the computer. Fixed the problem.

Firstly, your truck needs O2 sensors

Secondly, normally there's a rev limiter around 4k in park, in gear it should be 5200, perhaps your computer thinks it's in park, or perhaps your brilliant idea to remove the O2 sensors has something to do with it.

I bought it like that and have been meaning to install some. But do you really think that would have anything to do with my rev limiter issue?

I would check the park/neutral switch as suggested above..... if the PCM thinks you are in neutral.......
