dead truck need help
I bought a 96 1500 4x4 5.2 standard cab long bed the other day not running. It will start then immediately die. I have 50 psi fuel pressure with key on. No cell or stored codes. Good battery. Cleaned all ground wires I could find. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am completely stumped. I have done searches with no luck. Thanks.

what does it do if you hold the throttle (gas pedal) partially open. will it continue to run? if so that's and idle control issue.
you can rule out fuel pump by checking pressure with engine running. if it holds anywhere in the ballpark of 40-50 psi, its not fuel pump.
also - if its cutting off due to an ASD shutdown, it will cut power to fuel pump and cut the ground? (or 12v?) to the coil. as said ASD can be triggered by no signal from crank position sensor.

Swap fuel pump relay and see what happens with whta you switched the relay ove to. Could you be losing spark to cause it to die? How long was it sitting before you bought it? Maybe drain gas and put new gas in it (especially a problem if it has been sitting for a long time and has ethanol - sniff test may tell something)
No codes being set?

No codes. Tried switching relays. The more I think on it I'm leaning to fuel pump not keeping up. I have to floor it to get it to start for a couple seconds then dies. Is there a way to test the crank position sensor? The truck was dead when I bought it but the PO could only tell me it lost power and died driving on the highway. Does anybody know why fuel pumps only go out with a full tank? What is the best way to change the pump lift the bed or drop the tank? Thanks again
