I've got a 1995 1500, 3.9, 42rh, single cab, 2wd, short bed pickup that needs a new rear driveshaft. What year ranges and engine/transmission combinations can I pull one from? I know the v8's got a different transmission, but was the lenght any different? What year range of identically equipped trucks can I source from? Thanks in Advance

 

Ill go measure mine if you tell me how long yours is (ya that sounds bad). Check some driveshaft shops online and see if they have a range option

 

You can use any drive shaft out of a 94-01 2WD Ram 1500 with single cab and short bed.
Original part number for 1994-1997 53006755 was superseded by part number 53006755AB in 1998 and again superseded in 2000 with part number 52105615AA.
All of them can be used in yours.

 

1994-1995 are about the only tranny/engine combos that will work for you. 1996 they switched to the OBD II system and 46RE transmissions, which have significant electrical differences. Not impossible to use, but would be quite a bit more difficult.

 

The output shafts are the same though, any drive shaft from the same drivetrain, cab and bed configuration from 94-01 will work.

 

So the engine/transmission combination doesn't matter so long as it from a single cab/ short bed from 94-01? What about 4x4's, I assume those trucks would have a shorter rear driveshaft due to the added length of the transfercase (didn't see anyone say those were off the table though)?

 

Only the 2WD 1500 drive shaft will work.
The 4x4 one is as you already mentioned shorter because of the transfer case.
The propeller shaft of a 2500/3500 may fit but i can't confirm becasue the part # are different.

 

You need a driveshaft from a 94-01 dodge ram, 2wd, regular cab, short bed. You are correct a 4wd driveshaft would be shorter because of the transfercase. That's why I said drivetrain.

 

The output shaft on 3/4, and 1 tons are a little larger and won't work.
