I don't know what all that stuff in the thermostat was but I can only guess it was a mixture of many things.
Maybe minerals, and the stop leak additive, the corrosion from the
impella blades and probably other things. All I know is that the guy
I bought the truck from must of neglected the hell out of it. Everyone
I showed that picture to had the same response. They never saw
anything like it.

The reservoir was filled with some kind of sludge. I drained it and have it soaking with CLR. A GM mechanic I know on another forum advised that I flush the entire system with Prestone flush from the GM dealership that comes in powder form. I'm thinking of pulling the water pump as long as I'm in there.
