Default oooo boy... heater core?

Ok so the problem im having is when i start the truck and turn the heat on i smell that sweat anti freeze smell and the windows fog up bad and gets a film all over the wind shield. Its also a alittle moist on passenger side floor. The heat works amazing tho! I crank it up and it slowly starts to defrost window but it takes a long time. Can i get lucky and maybe flushing the sytem will correct this? I always thought if the heater core was going the heat would not be great. thanks guys

As the coolant leaks out on the floor, your heater will lose efficiency. Of course, your engine will also run hotter.

As you are in the snow belt, I highly recommend replacing the heater core...... don't bother with a bandaid fix, you will only get the opportunity to replace the core anyway, when it's five below outside.

The heater core is leaking, simple as that. Needs to be replaced. Flushing it will probably make it leak worse. Start searching for the HC replacement threads.

I grabbed the $75 core with the swivel pipes from auto zone, works great, no complaints.

Some people around here flame me for it saying I should have spent $200+ for the "higher quality" dealer one, but F that.

The $75 one looks exactly the same...just doesn't have a Mopar stamp on it... big freaking deal.

If you need some pointers PM me, I just went through this 2 weeks ago, would be happy to help. Entire job start to finish took an afternoon, no big deal, its really not as much of a PITA as some make it out to be, an extra set of hands helps if available

Total cost was:

$75 for the core
$15 for 20ft of heater hose
$40 for coolant to refill afterwards

Thats it. Sure beats the $600 the mechanic wanted for the job...

Doesn't matter what model you have. They all suck to get to.
