Default Bad wheel Bearing?

When I had my truck on jack stands pulling the tranny I was investigating a hum that I have coming from the rear end. My rear drivers side tire has play and a knock when i rock it from top to bottom, also when i spin it a loud noise comes from tire. I assume its a wheel bearing because the hum doesn't change with acceleration or deceleration but it changes with speed???????

I'm searching for parts locally and I'm being asked if I have a HD rear end. I have 9.25 LSD but is it considered HD? Thanks DF!

Thanks zman17 for the quick reply. Do you think the bearing is the culprit of my hum?

If the wheel moves around like that I'd say so. It needs replace regardless. Get one of these too, if you dont have one. http://www.dodge.com/wccsapp/univers...ull&category=U

Get that build sheet. HD axle was an option. And the build sheet will confirm. In any case, I'd get both bearings and seals, before tearing it apart. Then you can just return the extra parts. Better than another trip to the parts store.

Wanted to update this thread on the culprit of the hum/howl. Took it to a diff shop to do the repairs, and the carrier and pinion bearing were shot. Labor and parts came out to 455 with a lsd clutch rebuild. Mechanic advised that this is a common problem on the 9.25 rear end, and if not addressed soon that it could be catastrophic. The priced seemed a little high but was the cheapest out of all the other shops in my area. Truck feels and sounds 10x better.
