Simple is better! If I can just get the light switches to work, heater controls to do their thing, im sure i could find a way to make the gauge cluster fit. Either way, i will learn something!

I'd love to know how to get the 1998 & later steering wheel to work on a 1997 Ram. Are you going to swap steering wheels as well?

Wasn't there a thread on this not so very long ago? I like the locations of the cruise buttons on the newer steering wheels better.....

I thought so, but I'm not certain. My two concerns are wiring for the airbag and if the wheel fits the shaft. If there's a way your newly acquired Moderh@ter powers can find that thread and associated information, we mere mortals would greatly appreciate it

**EDIT**

Here's the thread, but he didn't take any pictures and he performed a complete column swap vice just the steering wheel.

Ah, yep. (my search-fu kinda sucks.... )

I would like to think that not a heck of a lot changed on the column itself..... but, auto manufacturers have been notorious for ignoring my suggestions...... not sure what that is all about. I need to make a trip to the yard later today...... if the opportunity presents itself, see if I can't figger something out.

Sweet! Unfortunately, I don't have the time to visit a local yard that is probably a haven for stuff I need. I hope you're planning to take pics, and if so please post them. Worst case, drop me a PM and keep me apprised!

if you do the swap get a headlight switch from an 01, the pull type switches suck, and with the newer style you can wire aux lighting into the switch because the will be several extra wire pin avaliable. i wired up one in my 98 and its nice not having to flip 900 switches to get all of my driving and aux lighting to turn on

Would you please post a detailed write-up or post a link if you've done so?
