Default Optima Yellow Top: Do I have this right?

Should I decide to get E-fans when I do my UD pulley, would an Optima Yellow top be the battery to get since accessory load might be an issue? I will be running 21amps for the e-fans (at max), plus my MSD box/coil plus be underdriven.

I assume I would have to put the battery on a tender every night...correct?

Just wondering what could help remedy possible charging issued. Although I have the off road edition truck, so it has the 136amp alternator.

Any thoughts? I am thinking of getting the flex-a-lite fan.

MSD box doesn't draw that much additional power.

Your E-fan shouldn't be running when the truck isn't.......

If you get a smaller pulley for the alternator as well, so that it isn't underdriven as much as some of the other accessories, you shouldn't have any issues.

No opinion on which battery to get..... But, you shouldn't need to plug in your truck every night.

MSD box uses 1amp per 1000 RPMs.

Your E-fans are drawing about 3 amps more then mine at full blast. With a 25% under drive pulley and the 136amp alt, I'm not seeing any charging issues with everything full blast: radio, headlights, a/c max, wipers, and fans running full.

I run a red top optima battery. I did have hemifever raise my idle up a bit when I had a 117 amp alt as it didn't keep up at idle with everything maxed out. It's still up a bit when I went to the bigger alt, but charging is better now and it doesn't dip at a stop light.

If it dips just a bit it isn't the end of the world, the alt will pick right up when you get moving again and recharge the battery.

Yellow top is made for powering accessories when the vehicle is off. Which msd box do you have? The digital boxes draw a lot less current. If anything you may just need a bigger alternator. As long as the alternator puts out enough juice it doesn't matter what battery you have. You could probably get a 200 amp alt for the price of the optima

I know my 120 amp alt will not keep up with the draw at idle with my a/c on max. And mine is underdriven.

I have a yellow top and it has never failed me, it has a 2 hour reserve even after you drain it.

A month ago I went camping with a couple of friends and my truck stayed on all night running my fogs and radio, and it still started early the next morning.

Ok, I thought that the yellow top would help power accessories if the alt couldn't supply it all. Then you just hook it up to a tender to recharge it at night.

I misread the website. HOWEVER, I might look into getting a yellow top to power an inverter for other accessories, like in camping.

THANKS

Don't waste your money! Ever since Optima was bought out by Johnson Controls and production of these batteries went to Mexico they've gone to sh*t!

The Jeep forums are chock full of newer Optima battery failures. My local Sam's Club has stopped carrying them due to returns being higher than all other batteries they sell combined.

WERE a quality product but not no more...

When I did the higher end audio/video install in my 01 1500 the engineers at Interstate steered my to their MTP-27 battery over the Optima saying I'd do better avoiding no-starts with the former. I haven't had one problem as of yet and it's been over two years. The only "problem" was the post reversal but as I was doing a complete rewire it wasn't an issue.
