I enjoyed reading this thread. Not that I was reveling in someones misfortune. Just that it was one of those problems that sneaks up behind you and slaps you in the back of the head. Who would have thought that was the prob, besides JohnD ? Glad it is running!!!

it's possible the PO had pulled the distributor, got the drive gear off a couple of teeth, and merely red neck engineered it back together by putting the wires on the wrong terminal.

This should be stickied in the DIY section. This is the first time I have ever heard of someone getting their truck running by moving their wires one over on the dist.
