Before you change anything double, triple check that you are on tdc comp.

the crank pulley 0 is lined up with tdc on the block and the rotor is pointing to the pass side of the truck

This is what I would do

1 Don't move the dizzy yet

2 move the spark plug wires one hole over all of them in the right order 1 to 8 and so on

3 pull the water pump and timing cover and see if the chain has skipped.

"and it seems when its at tdc the rotor is pointing at the #8 cyl. can i just take the bolt out of the distributor and pull it out and adjust and put back in?"

No. Not on my '94 5.2 anyway. On mine, and probably yours, the distributor goes in only two ways, each 180 degrees off. As PP said, I think you have to move all of the wires one spot over on the cap; that will accomplish the same thing. You've just got to determine that #1 is at tdc of its compression stroke and then make whatever position on the cap that the rotor points to your #1, then attach all of the other wires to the cap accordingly. If your cap is marked with a #1, that's where the rotor should be pointing to, but if it's not, and your engine runs perfectly, then screw it and just go with it.

Are you getting excited yet? I know I am

I wonder if it wasn't like that before he started working on it, but, was one of those things that you never even consider on disassembly....... Trouble is, fuel sync is gonna be way out.... It may start and run, but, injectors are going to be firing rather early.....

I have a feeling that the rotor is going to end up pointing at #1 when cylinder 1 is at TDC of its compression stroke and everything is going to be hunky-dorey. (Then again, I thought the Red Sox were going to win the AL East).

Let's just hope for the first.

I have to agree with you on this. Time will tell.

If it's stock..... its a morse style chain, and those have to be REALLY stretched to slip a tooth. It isn't unheard of, but, it is rather rare.... and the engine 'supposedly' only has 70K or so on the clock....... well, not like I have never been lied to by someone selling a car.....

I think verifying number one at TDC, and see where the rotor is pointing. If it is not where it is supposed to be....... Time to yank the front cover, and see what's under there.
