so a 180 t-stat is ideal with a tuner? thats in the future plans but i don't wanna keep changing back and forth

Raise the front of the truck up. Remove the radiator cap. Start the motor, turn the heat on to full. Let the motor get up to operating temp. Add coolant as needed. Of course that won't work if the Tstat is bad. So you need to replace it anyway. I'd put a 195 back in for now. If you cut the tab off the thermostat housing it will make replacing it at a later date much easier. As in, " future plans". For now, you'll be much better off.

Just a suggestion, hope it helps.

and maybe im not good at reading gauges, but this is where it sits at. maybe it is at 180???

That is not 140. That is where mine sits with my 180* thermostat. If you don't think your engine is hot, turn on the heater on high and have it blow in your face. After about 10 seconds you will say, "Ok it is hot."

Your truck would run better if you installed fuzzy dice on the mirror rather than buying into that 180º-thermostat snake oil Old Wives' Tale BS.

That's my driveway, and the interior of my truck ,and the "fuzzy dice" I took out of my daughters Yaris to take the pic in response to VW's post.

EDIT: And now that I think of it. The Dice were on the mirror when I pulled the truck into the garage. And I'll be damned if it didn't run better. LOL

How many horsepower did you get out of your daughters fuzzy dice? What did the ol' reliable butt dyno tell ya? (this could be a really cheap mod.....) Have to detail if you need to steal them from one of your kids though..... Dyno testing soon zman?
