I'm sure HeyYou meant the gauge on the dash, and whether or not you noticed what it was doing right before. Or perhaps even the "check gauges " lite.

i didnt notice the gauge. and my cel is on because of other things unrelated.... wait a minute, could my ambient battery temp code be related in any way to the alternator problem?

my buddy has the alternator now so i should know tomorrow if its savable. if not, i can get a used one for 50 bucks but i really hope i dont have to spend any more money on it!

also, on another note, does anyone happen to know if oxygen sensors are the same? for and aft the cat, and also if they are the same between different manufacturers, i.e. dodge, chevy, ford...

the reason im asking is my new job is at a place where we tear apart cars that have been smashed, flooded, or burned, and ive watched probably 10 or more o2 sensors go out the door to the scrap yard. if they are the same (besides the plug of course) than im going to put 2 in my pocket before i leave tomorrow. i know that factory units are better than the bosch i have, but im broke and cheap so if i can get unlimited o2's for nothin im all over it! and as far as using a used o2, most of these cars have less than 20k on the clock to they shouldnt be too bad. one i pulled out today only had a little tiny bit of exhaust soot on it, the truck had 12k miles but it was a 2010 chevy with the little v8, 4.8 i think? either way i set that one aside for myself later if they are in fact the same...

I'd get one from a JY or the dealer better yet, because of the problem you had . The battery sensor is not available at any part store I can find.

I'm talking about the battery sensor. Isn't someone already taking care of the alternator?

LOL, nice. that's one parts store I didn't look at. Be cheaper from the JY though.

Fires are incredibly scary in vehicles. I had a 1988 f150 that had an alternator fire. Ill tell you what beer didn't work too well to put it out for whatever reason. I junked the car. and bought a $450 86 carb'ed f150 manual 2x4 inline 300 (loved that thing to death)
Then i had an 85 chevy blazer with a 350 all done up catch fire running down the highway just a few hours after i bought it... Talk about getting burned LOL and yeah that blazer was a BLAZER hahah. Funny thing is im almost 18 so two car fires within a little over a year of having my license. One a little scare and the other 10 foot flames on the highway LOL. got a check for the blazer though which was a blessing for leading me to my beloved 96 1500.

DODGE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iv'e had two alts catch on fire maybe bad luck though lol, they were both weak and right before I could replace em they caught on fire both times the volt gauge suddenly spiked then dropped to steady 12 and smoke out from under hood lol, wasn't cool either time luckily was pulling into my drive both times and had extinguisher. ( This was on a stealth and a civic though )
