I'm really happy with the MPG on my 2001 4x2 360, especially on the interstate, it goes for quite a while. I suppose I should do a MPG test too and see what I'm actually getting.

And I got a build sheet from Dodge, turns out I only have a 26 Gallon fuel tank

and, because of this, I'll hijack this thread instead of creating a new one..

today, i drove about 250 miles, and mileage sucked..

but, I know why...

yesterday, I pulled off an air filter, and recharged it..

and instead of putting it back on, I replaced it with an air filter that was pulled, cleaned, and recharged a few months ago last time I did this.. I just shot it with filter oil, and loaded her up...

as is proper, I cleaned the filter I had just pulled, and staged it for use in a few months or so.. well, I'll be putting it back on tomorrow..

the thirsty filter is a Volant.. a huge thing.. about 6" in diameter, and a dang foot long if it's an inch.. the 'good' one is a spectre.. a short cone, about the same diameter on the feed side as the Volant, but much shorter.. the volant has a solid plastic end, where the spectre has an indented cone, and instead of being plastic, is filter element also..

I recall when I first bought the spectre.. I think it was $30 or so. the volant was about $100.. I thought, "i'll just use this for a go-between whilst I wait for my volant to get good and dry".. when I installed the spectre, mileage shot up.. like, WAY up.. about 2MPG's.. I thought "Dang, that volant was a lot dirtier than I thought it was".. now it's not.. it's clean as a whistle.. and it stops air.. even the vacuum gauge showed the difference..

point being- i'm amazed every time how much difference a simple air filter makes.. find a less restrictive one, and don't buy a name- but buy one that breathes as unimpeded as you can find.. they're like spark plugs I'm thinking.. you can buy the fancy ones, and spend five times more than you should have, or you can get the right one that isn't necessarily the expensive one..

I'll take pictures of them both if anyone is interested..

My truck seems to get worse mileage if I baby it. Now while cruising if I keep the rpms to say 1750 my mileage goes up. But that's only like 50 mph lol.

So is the mpg thing on the rear view mirror not to me trusted? Usually mine says about 12-13 but on long road trips it goes up to 19 which im certain is false.
