wipers quit working 2001 2500
driving along in the rain (of course), the wipers just quit at the very top of its sweep. Fiddled with it & after a bit, it went back down. Then started working, but got stopped exactly halfway up & stayed there. No action from the wiper switch.
Pushed the arm by hand down to its park position. Checked 25 amp fuse, looks OK. Read post about relay switch in the box under hood. Bought 2 wiper relays at NAPA (a thread posted for 3rd generation mentioned TWO relays). I couldn't see 2 relays, so replaced the one I saw.Is there only one in the 2001 model? Still no good. The only other odd thing about the truck is that every once in awhile, the ABS light flashes once on the dash. The brakes seem really good, though.
The other thing I noticed in 3rd generation threads was a mention of colder weather. Is this possible?! It dipped to about 50 today, but the truck was running & warm when this happened.

You can find the Factory Service Manual for download in the DIY section. It has complete wiring diagrams. Look for wiper and follow line back to fuse. Have you checked to see that there is voltage at the fuse? Maybe connection at switch is loose. You may check that as well. Connector below steering column under dash.

Stop driving in the rain?
Or ... how about putting 12 volts right to the motor and see how it behaves. Unplug it and make a couple of 12-gauge test leads; spring clamp on one end to a battery terminal, crimp-on connector to fit into the motor harness. Also, make sure the linkages from the motor to the arms aren't binding. Hope it's not the switch itself, that'd be a pain.
For the ABS light, I'd check all the electrical connections at the wheels, or for wires that could be rubbing and shorting out; pretty hostile environment down there.

CTM comes into play as well - I think. Remember seeing something else posted about that. Can't find thread though....
Been so long since it rained here, all the rubber on my truck has dry rotted. Ordered Jounce Bumpers today. FIRST time I ever had to replace stops on a vehicle before!

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies. I messed around with it again, and discovered that the relay clicks when the switch is on intermittent, no clicking on regular low or high setting. Then I put the old original relay back in; it also clicks with same pattern, but sounded slightly faster clicking. Does this add any good clue?
I' don't know that I'm up to trying to get at the motor to test, as suggested; but maybe could narrow down the likely problem. Thanks again. Hoping for no rain but we are in the northeast & it's rained almost every day all month!
