Default 305/70/16 on 7.7 inch wheel?

Can i put a 305 70 16 tire on a stock 7.5 inch wide wheel? Ive heard of people doin it with a hummer but not anything with a truck. Also what can i do to stop the rubbing on the torsion bar when i turn? Because I have 285 75s on it now and they rub a little

Thanks

Going to a wider tire is only going to make the rubbing worse. Look at the specific tire you have in mind, and it should have a "Recommended Rim Width". Probably going to be a minimum of 8 inches...... being only a half inch off? Maybe bad, maybe not. Up to you, and the tire shop. (they may not want to install them on undersized rims.... liability concerns don'tchaknow....)

If you have a half-ton truck, the front axle MIGHT have adjustable stops, so you can limit how far you can turn the front wheels, and avoid the rubbing. (but, increasing your turn radius some....)

Welcome to DF!

it is a 1/2 ton, its a 97. The recommended width for the tires is 8-10 inches. I guess an offset wheel would help

A wheel with less backspacing would stop/reduce rubbing at the control arm, but, you might find that it rubs somewhere else now..... (inner fender well most likely, or, the bumper....) Also keep in mind, that less backspacing is going to alter the loading on your front hub/bearing assembly....... and it may not care for that over much. (which would lead to them failing more often than they normally do....) Of course, if it's 2wd..... then it isn't quite so critical, as the bearings themselves are replaceable, and you don't have to get the whole thing. (cheaper too...)

You should really put all the info on your truck in your sig. Makes us helping you much easier, and you don't have to answer the same question each time. (where's zman??)

Click on "User CP" in the upper left, that will bring you to another page, if you look down the column on the left side, there will be "Edit Signature", click that one. Should be golden.

I see your profile info Chad.

@mccart: You want less backspacing. Stock is 4.5 inches. What size wheel do you want?
