Question repair time

im gonna start prepping my truck for black paint soon the tan isnt working for me anymore. now should i paint the truck first or fix the plenum and water pump? the truck dosent act like it needs the plenum repair but im sure it does. and the water pump leaks alittle.. and while i was there i was going to replace the timing chain. now how do i know my timing chain is bad?? i know if there is any slack in it that its stretched but until i pull the motor apart i wont know.i dont wanna order a timing chain and not need it but need it and not order it. and while im at it im going to paint the engine bay black and the motor blue. my truck has near 150k on it so im sure its time for a new timing chain correct?

I'd say fix the engine components first because those should save you money in the long run because of better gas mileage, but if you need a paint job and don't mind shelling out 3 grandish then do that too.

those keys work a little different than you may be thinking.. You need a magnum double roller.. I wouldn't consider using an OE single roller.. having essentially two chains side by side will add strength and limit stretch..

a good one will run you ~$100.. a decent one will run you $45.. up to you..

fwiw, though, I replaced my chain at around 145k on the clock, and, it was an instant and noticeable improvement..

nope.. no timing adjustments on the cam..

you can go the tensioner route if you like.. some do, some don't.. the argument is "if I'm going in there, then, why not?".. I subscribe to that one, fwiw, but it's up to you..

I wouldn't buy it from Hughes.. I'd simply Summit that biyatch.. :-) price difference will be significant..

btw: what year is your truck? I have an '02 keg w/ Hughes plenum plate attached I'll part with for cheap.. just to get the dang thing out of my garage..
