Good luck finding one for less than a grand, I'm going to be jealous if you do. You could google the swap, I've seen it before its probably not hard to find a link

I would happily spend a grwnd on it if it makes the noise go away. So far I have 580$ into this truck including the price of the truck and registration. All I can seem to find is how to swap an auto for a 4500. Anybody done the 3500 4500 swap want to let me know what needs changed. I have fogured out the bellhousing is the same and I will need a body lift. What about drivelines, tcase, crossmember and shicter. I heard the clutch hudraulics are the same.

Why would you need a body lift? On the heavier trucks that came with the 4500, the body is the same distance from the frame as the half ton guys..... body lift is unnecessary. (though, it may make it easier to install..... but, then ya gotta install the body lift, so, six of one, half-dozen of the other....)

I don't know if output shafts were different between the half tons, and heavier guys. So far as I know, they all used the same size output shaft on the autos...... it might be an easy direct swap.

FIRST off, just for the sake of bragging, I bought my whole truck for $750.

The nv3500 has an integrated bellhousing you goofball.

Used NV4500-magnum bellhousings are uncommon, due to everyone wanting automatics (look how that turned out).

NV4500-magnum bellhousings only run about $200 new from the dealer.

you dont need a body lift.

Wiring should be similar, since there's no computer control in either tranny.

I couldn't tell you about the measurements for everything, but that's the fun in a swap!

Good luck.

There used to be a member or two on this forum that successfully did the upgrade.

I think one was a 2wd and the other 4x4

Thanks for the info. I looked around today for a 3500 I found one for 600 bucks but its 900 miles away. I guess I will keep looking. I couldn't find any 4500 for a gas engine. I can still drive the truck its just annoying and loud. We will see what happens first find a trans or blow this one up
