Default cv joint replacement???'s

in my 99 ram 1500 i have a crunchung noise coming from the pass front tire when turning at low speeds....with a buddy inching along with the wheel cut i narrowed it down to most likely being the cv joint......HOWEVER...parts are not even listed as available for the shaft, joint itself or anything!!! can i replace just the joint itself and match one up based on bearing cap/overall measurements??? any info will be appreciated

i did consider the bearing/hub as the root of the noise, most likely not it

look under Driveline - Axle U-joint, not CV-joint. you get what you pay for, and its a sizeable job, so get good ones, either Precision Brand or Spicer or something else in the $20-30/ea range. don't get the $10 chinese, or you'll be redo'ing them within a year.

Get a Haynes manual or download the service manual from the FAQ/DIY section. Buy a simple ujoint (from any parts store) and replace it.(there's no measuring involved) Tell the store which joint you want , and they will hand it to you . It's NOT a CV joint like you are thinking.

And I don't know what store you are going to, but, I'd find a different one.

use the socket trick to remove the u joints.

but before you go wailing on 'em with a hammer, be sure to remove the c-clips at the bottom of the caps.

Search? I looked on the autozone site. One part listed, pretty simple. Of course I wouldn't use Duralast joints, but I had no problem finding the joint. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...26_0_1439_5247
