+1. I got the sleeve as I was accumulating parts for kegger mod and timing set for about a month before tearing it down. No way to tell if you need it until it is off unless you are leaking oil there, and not leaking oil does not gaurateee that there isn't a groove worn into pulley hub.

Measured seals and they were same size. You're good....

Do you need the $35 sleeve installation tool, or is there a cheaper/easier way?

Pull the balancer, and look at where the seal rides. If there isn't a groove there, you don't need the sleeve.

unless you have about a million miles, you won't have a groove nor need the sleeve.

I would personally use the sleeve, that stainless will outlive your truck and then-some.

I put the entire balancer in the freezer, and heated the sleeve in the oven. Next, using a wooden block (I used a piece of 2x4), I pressed it on and hammered the rest. I had zero issues, though, your success may vary. I wouldn't use a torch, you risk warping the sleeve because it is very thin.

Just because you don't "see" a groove, doesn't mean there isn't significant wear. It would suck having it all back together, only to find the front seal leaking days later. The sleeve is included for a reason, our balancers are known to wear, and subsequently, leak.

It's up to you.
