Default Motor replacement time i think

This morning my 360 was hammering like hell. Was a quart low, threw some oil in and that helped, but I've definitely got some lower issues. 230,000 some miles. I'm thinking it's a rebuildable motor, but cost may be more than I can handle. I'm wondering if a lower mileage used motor from LKQ or the like would be better. What i need to know is what year 360s will swap into a 99 with little kicking and screaming.

I think you can grab anything 94 or newer, and just swap over the intake/sensors and such from yours. In 2000, or 01, they went to a one piece pulley/harmonic balancer, but, that should be able to be swapped as well.

Has anyone ever gotten the kahunas to drop in an old first gen 12valve? My thought is it won't make near the power of a modern 24, so the driveline should be able to handle the output. However, I don't know beans about if it would bolt up to the 46RE.

I don't think it will. And the diesels tend to be torque monsters.... the 46RE would scream in agony, and then grenade itself......

Oh well, it was a thought. Looks like I can get a 150k motor for $600. Ouch.

Actually, Jasper engines wanted more "name recognition", and obviously, EVERYONE knows who Casper is.
