Default 5.9 exhaust manifold bolt replacements?

Getting ready to replace my heads. Since I was getting new heads, I was wanting to replace the exhaust manifold bolts/studs and have everything new. I have searched around on the forum and on the net to find replacement bolts/studs kit without any luck. Dealer is $3.85/bolt & $3.35/stud.

I have read about guys getting Grade 8 bolts and others swearing Grade 8 can snap so they buy Grade 5. Not sure if the dealer ones are heat treated or not?

Any one on here have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

Grade 8 bolts are stronger then Grade 5... either will do the job for exhaust manifolds though.

Grade 8 would be best bet. Less likely to break off when you have to pull them. I would also use anti-sieze. Tractor Supply sells these by weight.............probably the best buy around. That or a regular hardware store.

10-4 on the grade 8. Believe it or not the best place I found for grade 8 here in Roseville where I live is ACE hardware. Great selection and the price is fair.

Thanks for the quick response!

Those are header bolts. Won't work for the stock manifolds. You could just go to the hardware store and get some grade five bolts the right length/threads. You don't want really mean bolts there, as they need to be able to stretch a bit, as things do get a tad warm.....

Sorry, when I read head I thought it said header. Got headers on my mind since I have a blown gasket!

The actual size is 5/16 18 and they are 3 to 3 1/4 in long
