Default Transmission Problem

The past few weeks ive been having problems with my transmission at the very bottom of 4th gear or OD i believe. When it shifts into the final gear and is at the very bottom of it, it will begin to sputter badly, especially if going up a hill. It jerks hard sometimes, but if i press the OD off button it will downshift and drive fine there after.
I did hook it up to the hypertech programmer and it through the DTC P0783
I googled it and it said it is a shift solenoid and causes malfunctions from shifting from 3-4. I believe mine shifts from 3-4 it just has the problem in 4.
Will replacing this solenoid stop my problem or is something messed up internally in my transmission?

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 Auto w/ OD

Also i noticed for the past few months my tachometer has been acting very crazy sometimes at idle it will drop to 0 RPMS then at take off jump all the way up to 3500 and stuff.
The truck RPMS are running fine the gauge is just acting funny. Is this related or something different?
Thanks.

Tach is prolly a separate problem.

Does your truck start bucking and doing funny things right about 45 MPH? Feel like the truck is trying to shake itself apart? If so........

Replace cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. Pull the throttle body off, and have a look around inside the intake with a flashlight, see any pooled oil?? There is the root of your problem.

CHeck the stickied plenum thread at the top of this forum. Lots of good info there.

P0783 is 3-4 shift. I would also check the fluid (in Neutreal, not Park).

In the FAQ/DIY section, there is a factory service manual that you can download. Check the transmission section.

3-4 shift error message could be one of several things. OD solenoid not functioning, TC not locking up. Also, if direct clutch band sdoes not hold, you can get the same thing (but usually some 2nd gear engine flair as well). Check band adjustment.

It's about 40ish in my truck but I have bigger tires so gps is about 45. And yeah I guess you could say it starts to shake the whole thing. I just replaced the plugs about 3k ago once it got to 120k and we did have problems with two of the plugs coming out but got it to work.
One of my buddys is a good mechanic so I'm gonna tell him about all this and see what he thinks
