Brake and Reverse lights not working
Hello,
This is my first post, I look forward to many more and learning more about my truck.
So, my truck was likely working fine all the way until this morning. Someone told me my brake lights weren't working.
Since then, I've checked the bulbs, no burnt filaments, It looks like the fuses are fine, although I just looked at them, didn't pull any out, and I keep seeing talk about relay switches, but nothing about brake and reverse lights only.
Can someone help me trouble shoot from here?
Thank you for any help you can provide, it is much appreciated!
Joe

Grab the 01 service manual from the FAQ section, it will have wiring diagrams for you to check out.
Does your truck by any chance have the towing package? If it does, check where the trailer harness meets the rear light harness. (just follow it back.) They tend to sometimes cause issues.
'nother place to look is in the steering column, at the multifunction switch. Especially if you have tilt-wheel. The wires can get pulled out of the connector.
You may have two separate problems here. Fix the brake lites first, see if that doesn't solve the backup lights as well, if it doesn't.... well, we can take it from there.
Welcome to DF.

I had the very same problem with my 01 sport. Take the back tail light out and have someone push the brakes for you and have a test light to check for power. I found that all my bulbs were good, but they weren't making contact in the socket. Also check the ground in the back of the truck
Thanks for the help so far.
It does have the towing package, I followed it back, nothing looks out of the ordinary, but I will likely replace the 5 pin fuse there just in case, it looks fine from the outside, but maybe not from the inside?
Since I have rear lights, turn signals, and hazards, can I rule out the ground for the back of the truck?
Also, question to show my immaturity with electrical issues, where exactly is the ground in the back?
