I know I have too much gear lash in the rear end, but didnt know how to fix this? I read something about making different shims to put it, but im clueless when it comes to rear ends. Any help would be appreciated!
Shims go between the larger pinion bearing, and the pinion gear itself. Not a trivial undertaking. Requires completely disassembling the rear end...... If you haven't done it before, or, have someone to help you that has, you would be better off leaving it be. Also, you can't check gear lash with the cover still on the diff. A fair bit of the movement you feel at the yoke is simply taking up the slop in the spiders and such.
Backlash is adjusted by the threaded side adjusters. Pinion depth is adjusted with shims. On the 9.25 rear anyway. If you have a dana 60 or 70, different shims on the outside of the carrier bearings change backlash.
