Angry 1998 1500 pickup front brake dilemma

I blew the line over the gas tank, big shock I know. Replaced it. Driver front caliper locked up so I replaced that as well. Now here is where it gets screwey. After bleeding everything I went to go test drive and both fronts are locked up. If I crack the bleeders and release the pressure the brakes function for a pump or two, then back to locked up. Any ideas on what is going on?

How old are the soft lines from the frame to the calipers?

age unknown. They appear (from the outside) to be in fairly good shape. Thinking blockage or collapse?

They collapse inside. Kind of odd for both to go at once though. Maybe a proportioning valve/abs module problem.

Proportioning valve shouldn't make them lock though...... it's possible one has been bad for a while already, and when the other one crapped out, it became eminently noticeable. I didn't know I had a caliper locking up till I had to change a couple tires.

The abs module can though. And you are most certainly right about one side hose being bad previously and then the other going. You are the man HeyYou. LOL JK , don't get all defensive on me now.

Cool

Thanks guys. Going to replace the other caliper (might as well...it's only $15 and I'm in there anyways) and the two lines. What you say makes sense to me like this: the lines were crappy, but always had pressure...when the rear line went, the pressure dropped allowing them to collapse. Now that the pressure is back, pressing the pedal increases the pressure allowing the fluid in, but when the pedal is released, the pressure decreases and the lines collapse back down, holding the pressure in. So, I'll spend the $22 on each line and replace em....sooner or later I'll end up fixing the problem...after all there are only so many pieces to replace before I end up with a new system all around...LOL....man I love vehicles! I'll let you know when I get er fixed. Thanks for the ideas.

Please keep us updated. I'm interested in the answer. I think one of my lines is going bad...

Smile Happy Ending...

NO...not that kind.....my brakes work !!!!!

I do not have enough engineer or sadomasochism in me to question why or how, but after the previous problems described and all of your helpful hints...I started in. First by replacing the pass side caliper. Bled them and was getting ready to do the whole brake hose thing (which was making me ill looking at the brackets rusted solid to the frame)..and lo and behold the suckers were working. no lock up, nothing. so to end my adventure it cost me two brake lines, two calipers and I threw a new set off pads on for ****s and grins. My best to you all. Thanks!

I'm confused reading your post. Just me probably. But, from what I gather, replacing the passenger side caliper did the trick?
