Default air bag light after power steering??

i just got done replaceing the gear box and power steering pump and now my air bag light is on. i found a black wire hanging down leading up towards the horn. im guessing its the ground wire to the horn considering it doesnt work. i dont know if that has an affect on AB light or not. not urgent just curious.

Did it work before???

In the column, there is a 'clock spring'. Its what transmits electrical signals from the various steering wheel components, like the horn..... cruise control...... air bag...... to the rest of the truck. If, while you had the steering gear apart, the wheel turned to far, the clockspring broke. You will have to replace it.

I read somewhere - and I can't remember where, unfortunately - that there was a recall on the clock spin on some of our trucks. I know this because my air bag light came on and cruise control stopped working (although my horn still works). I haven't really checked into it too much for my truck, but you might get lucky and be able to have a dealer replace it under the recall if your truck qualifies. Just a thought.

I try to stay away from anything airbag myself.

Check the FSM in the DIY section to see if you are comfortable doing it. Everyone has their own comfort/skill level.

Yeah, airbags are friggin dangerous, and can kill. (if you are in the wrong spot when it goes off.... you are dead. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars....) I would make sure clockspring is the problem before replacing it. If it IS the problem, follow the procedure in the service manual TO THE LETTER when replacing it. Don't skip ANY steps. Shouldn't be too bad of a job.

Same issue, i know for a fact that my steering wheel did move excessively when i did my front end overhaul...i'm not overly concerned about not having an air bag, just the random chiming and light is irritating me, lol. can i just yank the air bag fuse and go about life without any catastrophic issues? Thanks guys

The sensor is down there under the radiator somewhere. Look for it, and see if you knocked the wire off .

would that sensor be anywhere near the bottom of the radiator? i replaced that recently, and actually now that i'm thinking about it the airbag light and chime started acting up since that time, not before.
