'97 dodge ram 1/2t 4x4 front axle seals question
Appreciate the info, I will probably just replace the shoes that will save me 30 bucks. Most people also don't use a seal driver, they use a flat washer or socket to actually drive the seal. I have a seal driver set with a slide hammer but it is too short so if I put the seal, driver, and nut on one end, and a flatwasher on the other with a nut, I can crank the nut and pull the seal into place.
There's this for the driver side http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech-article-3.html
And there is a video or 2 floating around here lately for both sides. Plus, if you get the parts from Quad4x4, you can also get directions/video. I have the video from 3 or 4 years ago on cd from Quad, and have not been able to find it.

I'd just buy the axles lol. Ad far as that plastic bushing goes, when I had my gears installed I had that put in in place of the old metal one and it's working fine. Never heard of the 2 being for different years.
Something was smoking in the right front tire area. Hard to see while driving. 1st I thought brakes but there were no scorch marks on the rotor or pads and the caliber was easy to come off. So not stuck. Then I thought it was hub bearing, replaced it and the axle was still very stiff to turn. Is this normal? Is this side (pass side) suppose to be hard to spin? The other axle (driver side) spins freely. Now $425 later my seal is fixed no leaking now on right side and the actuator is fixed but the axle is still very stiff to spin. Any ideas?
The passenger side axle is actually two pieces, there is the short outer axle, that goes into the cad, and then there is the intermediate axle, that actually plugs into the diff. if the outer axle is hard to turn, you need to find out WHY.
