Default Won't turn over sometime

My truck, every once in a while, won't turn over the first or second try. Yesterday I parked in the sun (it was a pretty warm day) and went to the driving range for about 2 hours and when I came back, it took me about 4 or 5 tries before it turned over and started. I think it's a bad ignition switch since it has 170k on it. What do you guys think?

The starter contacts are probably worn. I recommend you pull the starter and dismantle it to check. They're easy & cheap to rebuild with parts (contacts & plunger)from Nations Auto Electric http://www.nationsautoelectric.com/
Great guys and very knowledgeable.

I recommend rebuilding it yourself rather than going to the FLAPS as you'll know it's been done right and won't fail you 6 months down the road. PM me if you want some guidance/advice.

Even if the starter only has 40k on it? The starter is an Autolight brand.

As long as you've checked the cables and wires that run down to the starter. I agree with VW, (starter)

Do you hear anything click when you turn the key? And if you do, can you tell where it's coming from? If you don't, try swapping the starter relay, and the Horn relay.

Won't that cause the horn to honk every time he tries to start his truck?

At least he'll know it isn't the ignition switch.

Nope, no clicking. However, when I honk my horn, the truck will start to sputter just a tad.

Are you joking? (if not, how is your charging system??)

Swap the relays, see what happens.

I also suggest removing the cover's from the steering column, and checking the wire's and plugs on the back of the switch's.
