Make sure the tires and transmission shift really well, those two alone will set you back 2500+ dollars, if I would have known how much tires were I wouldnt have bought my truck. Dash board is about 400 +- which isnt bad, and I haven't had to replace anything else. Well I'm going to do the plenum and everything else which should be in the $400 range for all new everything that's important to get good gas mileage and stock power back. But you'd probably have to do that to any truck.

I have just over 180k on my original trans and engine. The problem I see most often is running overdrive in the city. I know mine doesn't hardly ever get to torque converter lockup in city driving....no lock up, more heat! Also accelerating it wants to drop to 3rd...more shifts = more wear and heat. I have a shift kit in mine..firmer shifts means less slippage and heat. I do use overdrive on the highway, usually over 60mph or so. That way it stays in od and the converter locks up. I change the fluid and adjust the bands every year or so..and I don't baby it! 95 1500 4X4 318. Plenum doesn't leak yet either! My complaint is rust..doors, rockers, etc. Michigan salt http://youtu.be/Yfvy2JY4Nx8
