Ground problem. You can download a 96 service manual from the faq section here, it has the wiring diagrams, and ground locations in it for ya.

Default ELECTRICAL please help!!

ok so my truck 97 2500 4x4 has a bit of a wiring bug i cant seem to figure out my brake lights wont work when the lights are on??? with the lights off they function normally as soon as the lights are turned on the running lights work but when the brakes are hit the lights go out and no brake lights the third brake light still functions normally???? iv bought extra bulbs and problem is still there with the new ones. iv traced all the wiring back to the fuse block and everything looks clean and intact even hooked up a multimeter and checked for opens in the wiring and still nothing???i wnt to say the wiring is all good seeing as how both filiments will light on the bulbs just not together. my only thing i can think of is maybe the brake switch? but i question that due to the fact that brakes work fine untill the lights are on im lost and i work nights and definitely need them working properly please any help would be great
