Drop in K&N in the stock box. Feels fine to me and like what was mentioned earlier, word would have gotten out just like Fram filters. On that note, I'll keep my ears open.

I don't need word to get out to see with my own eyes the amount of fine dirt that got through my K&N's (both the round filter and the drop in I had in the stock assembly).

True, they are used for lots of racing applications, but a racing vehicle is used for short durations at a time. My truck has over 100k on it now, and I hope to get another 100k. That type of longevity requires a better filter then one that is used on a track car that sees only a few hundred miles a year, and is probably torn apart and rebuilt on a regular basis.

Word is out. Did you see JSTMotos link? There are other independent studies I've seen which all yield similar conclusions. The data is available and echos what has been said.

The tests all seem to show paper filters filter more with a longer service span but don't flow quite as much. The reusable filters flow better, especially right after a cleaning but also pass more dirt until passing a knee in performance where they don't flow as well at all.

In my opinion it becomes a matter of personal preference much like choosing an oil and how often to change it. You may even find some combo that liberates some smalll amount of performance. As with oils ability to lube though air filters filtering capacity have a direct impact on engine longevity. You can get more airflow capacity from higher flow filters of the same form factor with the tradeoff of less filtering capacity.

The point others have seemed to hint at that strikes me as being important is that in the case of our engines it appears to be possible to have our cakes and eat them too. Higher flowing filters are better, but there is a point of diminishing returns. It is possible to meet or exceed the flow of any cloth filter with a paper filter by simply choosing a larger one but once you have met the engines peak flow requirements then a higher flow filter wont help you regardless of filtering media. Apparently, according to the reports of others here, one can get the superior filtering of a paper filter while ensuring enough flow to not limit performance by choosing a physically larger filter such a s the 14X3"'s.

Obviously there are limits but most of us here aren't running supercharged, cammed 408's up to 9000RPM.

You can search ebay and get them pretty cheap.

But you will have to get the TB riser adapter and make your own "S" bolt.

I installed a Spectre on mine this weekend. Been monitoring intake air temp. Plan to insulate outer part of intake box. Air under hood around town driving is 185 and air in box is running around 135 after about 20 minutes of driving. (It is in the 70's outside).

Don't know if CAI makes it run any better as I just did kegger mod, SCT tune and timing set, so too much change to be able to isolate anything.

Since the Air cleaner is recessed you need a spacer to make it fit over the linkage.
